Smaller Bitcoin miners are gaining ground on their bigger rivals
The Bitcoin mining industry is experiencing increasing competition after the 2024 halvingmid-tier miners narrowing the hashrate gap achieved as tough post-halving economic conditions persist.
Recent data from The Miner Mag shows that public miners such as HIVE Digital, Bitdeer and Cipher Mining have increased their hashrates made after years of investment in infrastructure. These companies are now catching up with the larger players, including MARA Holdings, CleanSpark and Cango.
Publicly traded Bitcoin miners now account for nearly a third of the Bitcoin network’s total hashrate, The Miner Mag said.
The sector’s growth is partly driven by a sharp increase in borrowing to finance new infrastructure investments. As Cointelegraph reportedthe Bitcoin mining industry’s total debt jumped to $12.7 billion, up from $2.1 billion just 12 months ago.
