ICP issues tongue-in-cheek apology for creating technology that proves DApps don’t need AWS

The ICP team has issued a tongue-in-cheek apology boasting about running full-stack applications entirely on-chain, even as the ICP token remains below 99% relative to ATH.

Summary

  • The ICP team issued a tongue-in-cheek “apology” boasting about the protocol’s ability to run full-stack applications completely on-chain without the need for traditional cloud services like AWS.
  • In response, several community members criticized the disappointing price performance of ICP, which fell from its ATH of $750 to just $6.

The Internet computer protocol (PIC) the team just released an unofficial apology for “trying that”Decentralized applications“I don’t actually need Amazon Web Services running…” and to “ship features today that other chains have scheduled for 2030.”

While the apology is clearly tongue-in-cheek, ICP can in fact host full-stack applications completely on-chain. Its “containers” are smart contracts that incorporate both application logic and data, and can deliver web content directly to users, eliminating dependence on traditional cloud services, such as those provided by AWS.

Some examples of full-stack applications currently running on the ICP network include:

  • OpenChat – A fully on-chain messaging platform that offers real-time chat, file sharing, and governance through a DAO, all implemented via ICP containers.
  • ICPSwap – An ICP-based decentralized exchange where both front-end and back-end logic are hosted on-chain, enabling token swaps, liquidity provision, and governance.
  • Caffeine – A no-code platform on ICP that allows users to build full-stack web applications through natural language prompts, with all infrastructure handled on-chain.

ICP price down 99% from ATH

Some community members rejected ICP’s “apology”, pointing out the unstable performance of the ICP token. “I’m an optimist, but that’s a LOT of shit talk for a project that’s down 99%,” user @detta0215 he wrote in a post on X.

Similarly, the user @OzDefi He said, “I wish you had promoted all the time, I’m down 96%. I just have to make 40X to break even.”

For context, ICP has fallen dramatically from its ATH of $750, reached 5 years ago, to just $6 today. However, it is worth noting that the ICP price has recently seen an impressive +240% reboundrising from $2.80 to $9.50 at its peak.
