1 Stock to Buy, 1 Stock to Sell This Week: Walmart, Target



The delayed jobs report, Fed FOMC meeting minutes, Nvidia earnings and retailer results will be in focus this week. Walmart is expected to deliver strong earnings and upbeat forecasts that could extend its impressive 2025 run. Target appears vulnerable to failure, with forecasts pointing to a weak holiday outlook that could exacerbate its underperformance.

Wall Street’s main indexes ended mostly lower on Friday, driven by another sell-off in technology stocks, while hawkish comments from Federal Reserve officials added to doubts about an interest rate cut in December.

After the strong fluctuations of the week, technology stocks ended down 0.5% over the period. However, the benchmark S&P 500 and Stock 30 held onto their gains, up 0.1% and 0.3%, respectively.

More volatility could be expected in the coming days, as investors assess the outlook for the economy, interest rates and corporate earnings, amid lingering fears over high AI valuations.

With the U.S. government shutdown now over, investors will be keeping an eye on important economic reports. It starts Thursday with the release of the U.S. jobs report for September. This will be accompanied by the minutes of the Fed’s October FOMC meeting on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, when it comes to corporate earnings, earnings will be the key update of the week as earnings season draws to a close. In addition to Nvidia, quarterly results from retailers are due next week, including those from , Home Depot, Lowe’s and .
